Take Action

Central Intake

Fall_07_Newsletter_001God’s Pantry Food Bank is unique in that it is a food bank which also operates direct service to clients through five emergency food pantries in Fayette County. This program, the original mission of our founder Mim Hunt, today serves an average of 1,600 client households per month. Our pantries are staffed completely by volunteers and the food bank manages all of the referrals from social workers for this program through our Central Intake office, which relies heavily on support from volunteers as well.

Central Intake volunteers take phone referrals from social service agencies and set clients up for an appointment to pick up food at one of five area pantries. These volunteers input client’s name and social security number in our computer system and access a client’s eligibility to receive food. Minimal typing skills, computer knowledge and data entry experience is required. This position does however requires a firm commitment to a set time period. There are two shifts per day, Monday – Friday. The shifts are 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1-3 p.m.
