Congratulations to Our St. Luke Volunteers
God’s Pantry Food Bank would like to congratulate our volunteers from St. Luke United Methodist Church for receiving the group award at the United Way of the Bluegrass’s 2010 Central Kentucky Volunteer Awards. Community Services Coordinator Linda Lancaster attended the awards ceremony on Tuesday, April 20 along with volunteers Lorraine Waun, Gil and Connie Rouse, Lonnie and Betty Yates, and Richard Rousseau.
God’s Pantry nominated St. Luke because of their indispensable support of our mission to reduce hunger in Central and Eastern Kentucky. St. Luke hosts one of our six emergency food distribution sites in Lexington, supported by approximately 35 volunteers from the church and community. The pantry is open every weekday and served approximately 3,500 households last year. St. Luke is in the process of becoming our newest distribution site for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program for senior citizens and the Kids Cafe program. Additionally, a dedicated group of volunteers from the church comes to our warehouse several times a month, sorting food donations that are to be distributed to each of the Fayette County pantries.
The volunteers from St. Luke have devoted innumerable hours to making a difference in the lives of those at risk of hunger. They represent the very heart and soul of our organization and we are grateful for their time, energy, and support.
